Arian Azarbar is an international real estate investor, based out of Montreal, Canada. He owns around 10,000 homes worldwide that are made with cellulose cement and light-steel, which reduces the overall cost of construction, and helps shorten the housing deficiencies in many nations around the world. He has worked with housing authorities from a few countries to tackle their nations’ housing crisis, by developing affordable solutions using innovative materials.
Before becoming a real estate expert, Arian acquired his Ph.D. in Biochemistry, while living in South America. He currently lives in Montreal and enjoys living a healthy lifestyle, promotes clean eating and loves scuba diving. He is also a dedicated husband and new father to one. Arian currently works for Bobois Townhouses, located in LaSalle, Quebec which he has been at since 2008. His goal is to make history in the real estate and construction industries, by using innovative, cost-saving ideas and practices to end homelessness around the world.
The idea for my company came from when I was living in South America, where I did my studies. There was a significant house deficiency down there, the housing construction technology is primitive compared to North America when it comes to assistance. The fundamental norms in building homes are much different than in other parts of the world. So, I came up with a hybrid for housing, using a lighter metal and hydrogen, which bypassed the cultural hurdle that occurs in South America and many other countries.
My typical day begins on the previous night, where I make a to-do-list for the next day, then I revise it. I wake up at 5 am and go to construction sites, where my properties are being built. By 9 am I’m in meetings with many of the professionals I work with and go over things that require my undivided attention. Then by afternoon, I go to the manufacturing site to check up on how things are going with the building materials I use to construct my properties.
I’m a solution type of person by nature, who starts by looking at the problems that may occur and things that need to be improved on each building site. Then I take those problems and perform a lot of web browsing to find the best solutions to the sorts of issues I may face. Then from there, I take these solutions, create ideas, and then execute them to solve any obstacle that comes my way.
The one trend that excites me is using 3-D printing to create all types of building materials. We currently have a 3-D printer that uses a composite of the supplies I use to create the supplies that I use in all of my properties. It’s quite exciting to come up with a more cost-effective way to build homes for families of all sizes.
The one habit that makes me more productive as an entrepreneur is to stay organized. Without having some organization to my day and tasks, it makes getting everything I need to complete a bit more challenging to finish. I rely a lot on using my calendar.
The advice that I would give to my younger self is to be patient and not let your ambitions shortcut important stuff on certain things. Because by ignoring the essential elements in your professional and personal life, you end up getting left behind.
There are many methods, such as my project in Montreal, which I wanted to use as much lime as possible without reducing density and all the architects, designers, and other prominent professionals said it could only do 68 units. I wanted to create housing that is much like a condominium with shared parking. They did not think I could use it to make more than a certain number of residential homes. But we ended up using my idea anyway, and it worked out wonderfully.
The one thing I do is always to verify your financial status and always base it on your worst-case scenario. Still be optimistic with everything and aim for better outcomes than before. These are the things that help me prepare for any situation and helps my business stay ahead of the game.
I always put myself in the consumer’s shoes, when turning any of my new ideas to life. I am the promoter, the businessman, and the salesman who thinks like a potential buyer, to help me come up with new products that revolve around what they would want in the things they purchase.
I tend to use each of my projects as an experiment, in real life scenarios, which ended up going badly. I had to learn how to control myself, to make sure that I am not getting too crazy on any of my projects. That is because they cost me more money than what I was bringing in. Some of these included a new roofing system, which was modular and it became quite expensive, which was tested out on one of my projects.
My idea is to target all of the industries that are highly stimulated by the baby boomers over the next several years. Some of these industries include financial planning, real estate, and travel. That is because baby boomers want to be prepared for any circumstance that could happen, and also to enjoy their golden years doing what they love.
I recently had a baby, so I purchased a Baby Brezza, which is a baby formula maker. It puts out the right temperature for water, and the right amount of formula to make the perfect bottle of formula. The formula maker is extremely helpful when you are waking up every two to three hours to feed your little one.
I think Dropbox is the one piece of software that my team and I cannot live without. That is because everyone on my team to have access to all the files that our company uses. You can share data of all sizes and allow access to certain people so that they can complete their work for the day, or week.
My favorite book is called One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a Colombian writer, who passed away recently. I think he was one of the best writers who ever lived and someone who I knew personally and respected.
My favorite quote is the quote from Nike, which is “Just do it.” It’s a great quote because if you want to get ahead in anything you want to achieve, you cannot just sit around and daydream about it, you have to get up and go for the gold. It’s helped me become who I am today.
